We have 2 yurts that we rent out at Holyford: Kingfisher and Buzzard yurt. They are in separate spaces on the smallholding. Kingfisher yurt is down by the oaks and the wild swimming pond. Buzzard yurt is up in the field looking over the Axe Valley. They have their own separate facilities or if you would like to come on holiday with friends / family you could rent all the spaces and combine them together!
The yurts are in perfect spots for watching the sunrise, moonrise and all the wild birds and animals that live at Holyford. By each yurt there is a campfire circle, compost toilet and sink.
From Buzzard yurt, a few minutes walk down the path through the wildflowers and past the chickens, there is Buzzard kitchen, an outside picnic table and Buzzard cabin. The cabin is an extra living space / indoor dining area with a woodburner, sofas, books, games and maps. Behind the kitchen is Buzzard solar powered shower.
From Kingfisher yurt,a few minutes up the path, past the pond and the Holyford oaks (and blubells in the spring) there is the Kingfisher kitchen cabin. A fully equipped open plan kitchen with seating area and shelves of books, games, craft materials and nature activities. Kingfisher solar shower is next to the cabin.
We are aiming for self sufficiency at Holyford and love re-using / creating things from natural materials or items that would otherwise be thrown away. Holyford has a very quirky relaxed, homely feel to it. We are striving for low impact living so provide compost toilets, solar hot water, solar electricity and woodburners and encourage composting and recycling of any waste.
We grow lots of fruit and vegetables on our site, in raised beds, terraces and in our polytunnel. We love sharing our surplus produce with guests!
We are fortunate that our water supply is from a natural spring and is UV filtered and tested. We also have a wonderful wild swimming pond.
Caroline is a Forest School leader and we both love helping children and families to explore and reconnect with nature and themselves. Holyford is a great place to do this, surrounded by beautiful countryside, a field away from ancient woodlands and on the Jurassic coast. We are happy to help with ideas of places we enjoy locally as a family.
The gardens have childrens play equipment, a football goal (but the lawn isn’t flat!), swings, climbing ropes, slide and 2 trampolines, plus a sandpit.
A field away from us is Holyford woods, an ancient woodland nature reserve
Guests are also welcome to use our private 25 acre re-wilding woodland a beautiful 30 minute hike away. Its great for building dens and exploring nature. Wood for the woodburners is from our sustainably managed local woodland.
There is the breathtaking Jurassic coast very close, with all its varied beaches. Wonderful to explore, by foot, by bus or by paddle!
