Bowacre

Jacqui and Richard had been seeking a move from Poole, Dorset for a number of years drawn by the countryside and prospect of peace and tranquility along with a simpler and quieter life close to nature and away from hussle and bussle of modern life. They also had a vision to create a place (retreat) which could be shared with others.

In Oct 2014 Jacqui and Richard moved to Bowacre (circa 1659) and commenced their journey in creating a small retreat. Settled in the rolling hills of mid Devon (affectionately known as Real Devon) and inspired by the beauty of Bowacre their vision to restore and recreate the grounds of Bowacre to its former glory commenced.

The restoration of Bowacre is well under way yet there is still very much to do from the cottage garden, pond restoration, well clearing and general maintenance of 3 1/2 acres of prime Devon countryside (nothing ever stops growing!).

In July 2017, eager to share the pure joy of being in such beautiful countryside Jacqui and Richard can now provide a beautiful bell tent for others to stay at Bowacre for short breaks in its own field overlooking the ancient Hittisleigh Wood, magical on any night to hear the owls, see the deer and gaze at the buzzards as they soar on the thermals.

Our vision, to create a rural oasis , a place of sanctuary and calmness for others to share.
